I have searched previous threads on this and the newest one I can find is more than a year old.

Where is the best place to unlock (for lack of better word, farm) runes, especially for the Elementalist's skills, other than with factions points?

I spent 2 hours outside Beetletun as one thread suggested. Not 1 rune dropped where it was claimed several per run drop. Maybe updates have changed the area. Any help would be appreciated.

There's not really an area where monsters drop a lot of Runes. Best way I think is to just go chest running in a high level area, like Southern Shiverpeak Mountains. Chests often drop purple or golden armour which contain the Runes.=P
Oh yeah, but the chance of unlocking an Elementalist rune is completely random.

There is no specific place where mobs drop specific runes, it's all completely random but there is more chance of gold runes in high lvl places. Of course you can just farm up some balthazar faction and unlock them which is probably the easiest and fastest way.

If you mean you wanna own the rune itself for your pve characters, theres always the rune trader, and it would probably be faster to just farm the money and buy the runes then farm the runes itself. If you are thinking of farming runes and then selling them for a profit....you might wanna rethink that.

If you're not affraid of spending money, youcan always buy unid gold or purple armors in places like Lion's Arch. Else, recently i've seen lots of gold and purple armor drop in Sorrow's Furnace from enimiesand from chests so that might be a good place to start.

Ettins outside Beetletun are arguably the best source of runes to drop.

I guess the Ettins outside Beetletun just don't like me. Spent entire day (10+ hrs) there. Only 6 minor, 3 majors, and 0 superiors dropped. Several trips thru the southern Shivers had similar results. I guess time for Fire Island. Thanks all.
